BIO

Suzy Scarborough is a self-taught artist from South Carolina who has been creating work since 1992. To her, the work is an intuitive conversation between the brush and the painting. Scarborough begins her work with a collage of book pages from a variety of sources, combining early 19th century engravings with more modern materials such as botanical drawings, maps, or scientific textbooks. As she adds acrylic, oil pastels, and watercolor to the surface, the pieces take on a surreal dreamscape quality, reminiscent of misty forests or luminous watery gardens.
