BIO
Art is the language I speak, the way I communicate to the world. I realize that although energy is unlimited, time is not. Through the infusion of time and energy in my work, I am grateful to share a slice of my time here, with you.
In my technique, the destruction process is just as important as the painting process. Through sanding and etching with a pallet knife, I can play with chance and reveal surprising marks and beautiful wear; giving the appearance of an ancient relic or old sign with a story to tell. The method of tearing down and building up a piece in this way gives it history and allows it to become what it wants to be, independently of even me. I use acrylic paint applied with a pallet knife on wood canvas to achieve this.
I draw upon ancient relics, petroglyphs, and old distressed signs, weaving in my own story and experience. The incorporation of nautical themes reflects my love for the wild and contemplative nature of water. Ideas often come to me during my daily breathwork and meditation practice. This gives me access to playful childhood memories, stored deep in my mind. Birds, especially waterfowl appear as omens and guides; and two sweet little boys have stepped their way into my paintings as well.
My art is a reflection and reinterpretation of other artists, musicians, writers’ and philosophers’ worldviews. Often, a single lyric or passage will inspire an entire piece. Artists share their gifts and experiences with me, and I aim to share mine with you. Together we can evolve a clearer concept of the world.
I love imagining the space and the people surrounding my work. I don’t believe a piece is finished until it is hung in the space it belongs, around those who resonate with it, who speak the same language. My hope is that you don’t just see my paintings, but that you feel them as well.
