Educated at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, Mary GrandPre began her career as a conceptual illustrator for local editorial clients. Continually experimenting with media, GrandPre underwent many artistic changes in her painting style, with a constant concern for light, color, draftsmanship, and design.
GrandPre’s work has recieved national recognition through awards recieved from The Society of Illustrators Communication Arts, Graphics, Print and Art Direction. Her work was chosen among thousands of illustrators for the cover of Showcase 16, and she was featured in Step by Step Graphics and Communications Arts Magazine.
She worked in the environment/scenery department in Dreamworks’ animated film Antz, and is best known for the cover paintings she created for the entire Harry Potter book series, as well as the illustrations which appear at the beginning of each chapter.
