Rachel Dory is an Austin, Texas based artist known for her site-specific paintings of roadside America.
“As I travel I stop to document locations that speak at once of permanence and transience in America. My intention is to function as a crucible, eliminating “impurities” and excess in order to reach the core of the place. The resulting images serve as windows through which viewers can experience their own stories. I know a painting has succeeded when a passerby stops to take a closer look and says “I feel like I know that place.””
